All visitors require a passport to enter Namibia, which must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay in the country, and have sufficient pages for entry and exit stamps. All visitors must also have a valid return ticket.

Minimum Requirements for Tourists exempted from visa requirements to enter Namibia:

• To be in possession of a valid passport which is valid for at least 6 months beyond intended departure date from Namibia
• To be in possession of valid return / onward air ticket or proof of other means of transportation enabling him to leave Namibia
• Entry into Namibia will be permitted for a maximum period of 90 days, (extension possible on application to The Ministry of Home Affairs during stay in Namibia.)

As you all know, the World Health Organization has raised the Influenza A (H1N1) alert level to 6, indicating a global pandemic.

The early signs are that this announcement has not led to an overreaction by either Governments or the media.

It is worth noting that:

• At this time, the WHO considers the overall severity of the influenza pandemic to be moderate.
• The WHO continues to recommend no restrictions on travel and no border closures.

IATA continues to monitor the situation and will keep you informed through its dedicated website www.iata.org/flu, especially if there are changes to the WHO's recommendations.

Namibia Health Requirements for Visitors

• Vaccination Certificates: Yellow fever inoculation is a requirement only if the journey to the Republic of Namibia entails passing through the Yellow Fever area of Africa by any means other than by a air scheduled air service The validity of a Yellow Fever certificate begins 10 days after the date of vaccination.
• Malaria is endemic in the Northern and Eastern parts of Namibia. This includes the Estosha area. Visitors are well advised to commence a course of prophylactics, especially if visiting these during the rainy season December – April. Use insect repellent and dress accordingly. Mosquito nets are available at most Post Offices and camping equipment stores.

Portable Electronic Devices

For the safety of passengers, the use of certain carry-on portable electronic devices is restricted as they may interfere with the aircraft navigation and control systems.

Passengers will not be able to use any portable electronic equipment while the aircraft is taxiing, during takeoff, or during approach and landing.
Electronic devices that are most likely to cause interference are amateur transceivers, CB radios and remote control devices, including toys. The use of these devices is banned at all times on board.

Mobile phones must be switched off completely when the cabin doors are closed for departure and must not be turned on again until the aircraft is parked and the cabin doors have been opened. Mobile phones may be used on the ground during transit at any time the cabin doors are open (unless otherwise instructed by cabin crew).

Other forms of electronic devices such as DVDs, VCDs, LDs, computer CD-ROMS, mini discs, camcorders and CD players may be used on board from 15 minutes after takeoff until the seat belt sign is switched on in preparation for landing. The In-flight Services Team will make an announcement to remind you of this safety requirement.

Please note that personal electronic device cannot be plugged into the aircraft's electrical power supply outlets.

This includes any type of charging devices. An exception is made for portable shavers which may only be used in the appropriate sockets in the lavatories.

Prohibited Items

For safety and security reasons, dangerous goods such as those listed below, must not be carried in passenger's baggage (checked or unchecked):

• attaché briefcases with installed alarm devices; or incorporate lithium batteries and/or pyrotechnic material;
• explosives, munitions, fireworks and flares;
• compressed gases (flammable, non-flammable or poisonous) such as butane, propane, aqualung cylinders, lighter fuels or refills, aerosols;
• flammable liquids such as paints, thinner, adhesives;
• flammable solids such as "strike anywhere matches" and articles which are easily ignited;
• oxidizing substances such as bleaching powder and peroxides;
• poisons such as arsenic, cyanides, insecticides, weed killers;
• radioactive materials;
• corrosive materials such as mercury (which may be contained in thermometers or blood pressure gauges), acids, alkalis and wet cell batteries;
• Knives (including hunting knives, swords), scissors and any other sharp objects (e.g. ice-pick) considered illegal by local law, and;
• any other substances which, during a flight, present a danger not covered above, such as magnetized, offensive or irritating materials.

Medicines and toiletries in limited quantities which are necessary for your journey, such as hair sprays, perfumes and medicines containing alcohol, may be carried on board. Further information is available on request.

The importation of arms and ammunition is governed by laws, which require import licenses or permits to be issued in advance by the authorities concerned. Please contact our reservations office for further information. Harpoons and spear guns are classified as arms.

Examples of a restricted article would include:

• Firearms including shotguns, air guns, humane killers, bolt guns, flare pistols and starting pistols, ammunition, replica or imitation firearms, cross bows.
• Explosive material, including military, commercial or home-made explosive, explosive devices, detonators, smoke cartridges, grenades, mines and other explosive military ordinance, replica or imitation explosive material or devices.
• Pointed or bladed items made or adapted to cause injury, flick knives, gravity catch knives, stilettos, daggers, kukris, other knives both real or ceremonial with blades of any length or description, including sheath knives, kirpans and skeandhus, open razors, scalpels, ice picks, swords, sword sticks, umbrellas containing sword blades or arrows.
• Items containing incapacitating substances, including tear gas, mace and phosphorous acids.
• Highly inflammable substances (e.g. petrol, lighter fuel, etc.)
• Gas containers and aerosols with a capacity of more than 500 milliliters.
• Knuckle-dusters, clubs, coshes, rice flails.

All passengers travelling Business Class as well as individual passengers travelling Economy Class can reserve a requested seat when booking their flights.

Seat reservations can be done within 5 months or 72 hours prior to your intended departure date. For details please contact your closest travel agent or AIR NAMIBIA booking office.

Please note that seat reservations are done without any obligation on the part of AIR NAMIBIA. For security reasons, all seats at the Emergency Exits are only booked, at the time of check-in and cannot be booked ahead of time.

We recommend passengers to reconfirm flights 72 hours prior to departure. Reconfirmations can be made at your nearest AIR NAMIBIA office.

Expectant Mothers

To ensure mother and baby’s well begging please adhere to our following international Regulation:

• Up to 32nd week of pregnancy travel is permitted on Air Namibia, we do ask for your understanding however that we have to insist on a doctor’s certificate indicating your ability to travel by air. This certificate may not be older than 7 days. Travel on AIR NAMIBIA after the 32nd week of pregnancy is not possible.
• All expectant mothers cannot be allowed to travel within the last 7 days before confinement and the first 7 days after delivery.
• New mothers can travel 7 days after birth.

Services for disabled Passengers

On the ground:

AIR NAMIBIA transports essential support equipment for passengers with reduced mobility, such as wheelchairs and prosthetic devices at no additional cost. The same applies to medication which may be required during your holiday.

Most airports offer a baggage service which should be booked in advance with the relevant airport authority. Please submit information at the time of reservation if you require special
assistance and if you suffer from a specific medical condition, so that you will receive preferential service. Air Namibia can provide wheelchairs on request.

On Board

On board our aircraft are special seats for passengers with reduced mobility. Should you be dependent on taking medication during the flight, please ensure that these are within easy reach in your hand luggage. If you need injections during the flight, please do not hesitate to approach the Flight Senior Officer (FSO) for assistance.

Unaccompanied Minors (6 – 11 years old)

We will gladly look after our young and sometimes unaccompanied passengers. This free service offers you reliable assistance for children between the ages of 6 - 11 years. Please provide us with name, address and telephone number of the person picking your child up at its destination at the time of booking.

Your child will be met by one of our employees at the check in counter or the play room and escorted through passport control and into the aircraft. On board our cabin crew will provide toys, a separate menu as well as a special entertainment package to ensure the comfort and well being of your child. At the destination we will escort your child through passport control and to the person picking him her up.
